Volunteers
Are So Important
Homeless Solutions was founded by volunteers,
and 25 years later, volunteers are still the backbone
of our organization. Without the assistance we receive from
our dedicated volunteers, we would not be able to provide
our guests with the wide range of services we do. Some of
the ways these generous people give of themselves include:
- Preparing dinner – every night of the year. In 2007,
volunteers prepared and served over 13,000 dinners to our
guests at the shelter.
- Preparing lunch on Saturdays and Sundays, every weekend.
- Donating paper products, furniture, holiday gifts, cleaning
supplies, and other much needed items.
- Sharing time and knowledge – teaching workshops on
reading comprehension, budgeting, and stress management.
Spending time with our youngest guests – reading stories,
playing games, and doing arts and crafts.
- Assisting
with monthly shopping.
- Providing childcare.
Our
volunteers come to us from schools, churches, businesses,
civic organizations, social groups – and, of course,
some are families and groups of friends, eager to help. Every
one is an invaluable asset, and we are so very appreciative
of their assistance and commitment. These are people who truly
make a difference!
