On April 5, Aikido Centers of New Jersey (ACNJ), located at 55 Eagle Rock Avenue in East Hanover, will hold a public introductory seminar to benefit Homeless Solutions Inc. The event starts off at 8:00 am for children ages 6-12, and instruction for children older than 13 and adults begins at 9:00 am. There will be a total of seven aikido classes throughout the day led by a wide variety of ACNJ’s black belt teaching staff. This seminar will include members of ACNJ from beginners through advanced practicing together in a typical Aikido class atmosphere of camaraderie and fun.
Participation in the seminar requires a minimum donation of $20 to observe, and the funds collected will be used to send children at the shelter and THP to camp this summer.
“This is the second seminar we’ve held to benefit a local nonprofit,” said Greg O’Connor, owner and chief instructor of ACNJ. “This seminar allows everyone to learn what we’re all about while doing something good for a great cause.”
Aikido, translated means “harmony with the spirit”, is a Japanese martial art developed in the 20th century. This unique nonviolent martial art focuses NOT on punching or kicking opponents, but rather on using energy to gain control or to throw without injuring an attacker. It is not a static art and places great emphasis on motion and the dynamics of movement and circular blending. Aikido teaches focus, discipline, and self defense while increasing flexibility and reducing stress.
