Young Leaders for HSI Host
Back to School Barbeque
On October 8, the Young Leaders for HSI held a back to school barbeque at our transitional housing facility. It was a wonderful afternoon, and our guest children completely enjoyed the food, games and fun! Thanks so much to the YL group for making a special day for some special children.

Monday, October 3 Homeless Solutions, Inc. held their fourth annual Women’s Day of Adventure – Boot Camp Drills or a Hike in the Hills.  It was the most successful adventure to date with 125 women gathering at Natirar Park in Peapack for an invigorating boot camp exercise experience or an energizing hike on the beautiful park grounds.  The morning’s adventure was followed by a luncheon at Ninety Acres restaurant, and over $15,000 was raised in support of child care expenses for HSI guest children so that their parents can work.

HSI would like to thank event sponsors Gates and Mary Ellen Hawn and New Jersey Natural Gas, Committee Members Janine Chilson, Margaret Clark, Rosa Gomez, Fran Maietta, Kaina Martin, Karen Scott, Claudia Torrisi, Kelly Traudt, Carol Ann Veraldi, Wendy Whiting and Wendi Zimmerman, the event volunteers, and the event attendees.

If you are interested in participating in next year’s event or serving on the Planning Committee, please contact Wendi Zimmerman at 973 993 0900, x21 or wendizimmerman@homelesssolutions.org

The weekend of September 17 and 18 was a busy one in Morristown, and Homeless Solutions, Inc. and our supporters were there!  Morristown was the site of New Jersey’s first Gran Fondo ride, as well as the Kids Fondo, and the MorristownGreen.com Music and Film Festival.

The Gran Fondo Ribbon Cutting: (l to r) Grow It Green Morristown supporters; Scott Rosenbush, Mayor of Morris Township; Susan Robinson, HSI Communications Manager; Wendi Zimmerman, HSI Event Manager; Tim Dougherty, Mayor of Morristown; and Marty Epstein of Marty's Reliable Cycle.

HSI was one of three local non-profits, along with Grow It Green and The Seeing Eye, to benefit from the ride, and we had a team entered, as well!  Some of our guests and their children were on hand for the Kids Fondo, and we also submitted a film for the film festival.  To read more about one guest family’s special story, please click here:

Many thanks to Gran Fondo organizer Marty Epstein, HSI team captain Rob Tallman, film creator Jason Koontz, and all of our supporters who volunteered their time at water stops and came out to cheer on the riders.  It was a grand weekend!

September 8 — The grand opening of our ten affordable, environmentally
friendly apartments on Drakestown Road in Washington Township.

HSI is thrilled to share the news that the Garrity Family, who have been guests in our transitional housing facility, are the grand prize winners of the Live! Free House Giveaway contest!  Regis surprised the Garritys at their THP apartment on Wednesday, May 18, and then they all went over to see the new house.  It is an amazing gift for a very deserving family, and everyone at HSI is so happy for them!
