Background
In December 2008 the Headquarters Development team completed the transformation of a dilapidated single-family home into a practically-new two-family home. Each unit has two bedrooms, is Energy Star rated and utilizes green building techniques and materials. It is up the street from our 12-unit Abbett Avenue Apartments, which was completed in October of 2008.
The redesigned house and property have a lot of curb appeal, and the location is a fantastic example of “smart growth” and affordable housing. It is walking distance to the train and bus stations, downtown Morristown (with job and retail opportunities), many churches, and a neighborhood park. Demographics indicate almost half of the rental households in the neighborhood pay over 30 percent of their income for housing.
As with all of our rental property, the apartments are “service enriched”. Tenants are able to take advantage of programs and services offered by our organization and consult with our Community Outreach Specialist—a trained social worker—for issues that arise in their lives.
